A logo...and a competition

Do you like the new look? Today, I had the thought that it would be nice to have a logo for 'Oliver and Wills,' something that reflects the blog as a general parenting blog for families who have children with special needs, but illustrates the inspiration behind it all. I sent a call out on twitter to see if anyone would be willing to design something for us and had a reply from a lady in France - @Emy_nagel. Emy looked at the site and felt moved to draw some ideas for us. From her first sketches I knew the design was perfect.

In her twitter biography, Emy describes herself as an illustrator, children's author, princess by the day and ninja by night. Emy has a fantastic blog, spotted and swing. It really is worth reading over a nice cup of something. It's full of beautiful and whimsical art. Something to escape into. I feel so honoured to have this logo designed by such a talented artist.

With the blog re-launch, facebook page and logo, I think it's time for a 'launch competition.' Watch this space....

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh now I can see the logo up close I can see what it is!!! Facebook size it was impossible to tell. Now I get it :-)

This seems like a real exciting makeover! I think I've interpreted the logo in my own little way based on knowledge of autism. I'm prob way off but thats what art is all about eh? Can't wait to hear about the competition?! xx

Why Oliver and Wills?

'Oliver and Wills' was inspired by two special boys - William, who has a complicated 'syndrome' that has resulted in complex medical needs including a small bowel transplant, Asperger's Syndrome and mild cerebral palsy, and Oliver, his best friend - a Golden Retriever who has helped Wills grow in social confidence and with his physical development.

The blog began telling their story but has grown into a practical parenting blog for all families dealing with special needs on a daily basis. Oliver and William's story will continue, but other children's stories are also shared together with practical features and reviews of products, services, days out.. anything and everything to do with family life where a child has additional or special needs of any type.

Oliver and Wills is written by Sarah Milne, William's mum and a professional journalist, with the help of a team of reviewers. I'm single Mum to three amazing children.

Ellie is 11 and a future fashion designer.
William is 6 and a bit of a miracle.
He survived a small bowel transplant in 2008, has Asperger's Syndrome and mild cerebral palsy and is a born comedian.
We also have Oliver, a Golden Retriever puppy who I'm training to help William understand the social world and assist me in gluing the family together.
